GRANITE

GRANITE is an igneous rock formed by magma or lava cooling and finally solidifying. Granite is composed of many minerals including quartz, feldspar, & mica. Granite is tough, can hold heat, and withstand high-traffic areas and outdoor spaces. It can come in a polished, honed, or leathered finish.

QUARTZITE

QUARTZITE is a metamorphic rock formed from sandstone. Exposed to high heat & pressure, the sandstone becomes quartzite. The sand grains recrystallize, and the silica binds together during the metamorphic process, creating a solid mass with tight interlocking grains. It can come in polished, honed, or leathered finish.

MARBLE

MARBLE is a metamorphic rock consisting of carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite that have recrystallized under the influence of heat and pressure. It has a crystalline texture. For softer marbles, we recommend honing the surface to keep the appearance of scratching and etching to a minimum. It typically comes in a polished or honed finish.

SOAPSTONE

SOAPSTONE is a metamorphic rock consisting of mostly talc and may contain micas, chlorite, pyroxenes, amphiboles, & carbonates. It is soft to the touch but very dense and heat-resistant. Soapstone can be untreated and left to naturally patina, or an “ager” or mineral oil can be applied to darken and even out the appearance of the stone. Soapstone is typically available in a honed finish.

QUARTZ

QUARTZ and other engineered stones are composite stones consisting of milled quartz, resin, & dyes. Quartz can also contain recycled glass, concrete, paper, & broken porcelain. Many go by popular names such as Silestone, Caesarstone, Cambria, Q Stone, Dekton, & Laminam. Quartz & other engineered stones are non-pouros, which means: stain stain-resistant and low maintenance. Finishes will vary from brand to brand.
